Loneliness

What to people do to deal with loneliness? I guess in Singapore, people go shopping or eating?

I think there must be a lot of lonely people around, but everyone is good at hiding it. When I look closely at some people, I think they must be lonely.

Or maybe I am just projecting how I feel onto someone else.

I guess so. I think it also depends on how socialable a person is. I like to do many things alone, but sometimes it's nice to be out just to get some human contact like you said even though it is only a limited kind of contact.

i guess it depends on your definition of loneliness. I dont usually crave for company that much. just me and my cat. or me out somewhere, sitting at a corner of the bar/cafe, observing ppl.

I think it's just a matter of how you wanna deal with it. When the feeling hits you, why not asking yourself what have you always wanted to do alone, instead of wishing for someone to be there for you?

    just my 2cts worth.

Agree. Like I wrote before, I don't mind doing things alone. But sometimes it's nice to find someone who can just meet up and chat at the last minute. I think it is hard to do that here because everyone works so much.

I love cats too! I have been cat sitting my neighbour's cat. The cat is quite tempermental, but I like her that way. Makes her have character and seem human.

Why not get a cat? A bird or two?
Pets are wonderful healers. You have to be willing to take care of them 365 days of the year, however, so it's a commitment.

Suggestion: join clubs, take courses, volunteer. At a restaurant, find someone sitting alone and sit with them (be warned you might be rejected, but it's worth a try), chat.

Wherever you are, chat, recognizing that you won't make friends with someone in one day, or even 5 conversations, necessarily. It's human contact, and everyone needs that.
From my personal experience, it is possible to have great conversations with complete strangers. You may choose to continue the relationship, or let it go, but for the time it's happening, it's great! As long as you show a genuine interest in the person you're talking to, and are warm and friendly, people will respond positively to you. After all, the person(s) you're talking to may well be very lonely, and appreciate the olive branch that you've extended.

I have tons of hobbies already. I am cat-sitting these days, so it is actually nice that there is someone happy to see me even though she is kind of a snob at times or only wants food! I may get my own cat in the future. Have to see if I can handle the responsibility first.
