What is Chemistry?

What makes two people "have chemistry"? Was talking to a friend about that during dinner a few nights ago. The friend said Singaporeans are "not very attractive" and therefore, attraction cannot just be physical. There has to be chemistry.

I think there has to be some kind of intellectual chemistry. i.e I enjoy talking to the person and the conversation moves along easily.

I know it's a bad date when one or both people run out of things to say.

Sadly, as a Singaporean, I agree to what the friend said.

If you have been to other countries, you can compare the attractiveness level of their populations. I have to say that women in Japan and Korea are much more attractive than the women here. The men aren't too bad either.

Surely it is dangerous to make such a sweeping statement as 'Singaporeans are not very attractive'; sure, I do not disagree that there are many out there that are so, but one cannot simply compare the attractiveness of two or more countries just by percentages. This approach is inherently illogical and of no basis.

Attractiveness is not about what the observed has, but what the observer chooses to see. And since attraction is so highly subjective, one man/woman's meat is another's poison.

Chemistry is an emotional reaction that no amount of science can quantify; if it's there, it's there. Just because one doesn't have chemistry with a good lot of people does not necessarily render them as 'unattractive.' Unattractive to some, but surely not all.

Perhaps the problem lies with the friend's perception, and that, just as others are not very attractive, he or she is conversely unattractive.

I agree that physical attractiveness is a relative term. Everyone has their own checklist or idea of what makes a person attractive. So I will correct myself and write:

In my opinion or according to my criterion for physical attractiveness, it is easier to find attractive people in other countries than here. However, looks are not enough. I also need intellectual and/or emotional interest in the other person to be really attracted.

Not sure how else to explain....

yes, help. It's all about money here isn't? Without showings of wealth, be it actual cold cash or loaned monies (credit cards), attractiveness in Singapore is next to nothing.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
However compatibility is in the beholder of the eye.

What's the point of being with someone who has a lot of money but no time to spend with you? It would be kind of lonely, wouldn't it? Might as well stay single.
