Jap Guys

Have been showing some Japanese friends who are visiting Singapore around. They are from Tokyo. A few observations or comparisons with local men here.

They are more polite. (always saying thank you or sorry etc)
They are better groomed. (they are more pulled together and tidier - no run down clothes or slippers)
They are less emotional. (they don't just blurt things out without thinking first)

We are off to Sentosa today. Apparently, one of the things on their Must Do list is see the Merlion. I kept tellng them it's a tacky and embarassing Singaporean icon. Oh well....

You should see the propaganda animation film about the Merlion. My Singaporean friend and I were laughing. Govt is trying to build up this myth about it, but it's a modern creation!

Have you been to the new library? It's huge, huge, building. Full of empty space. My friend who likes to do his writing there said the books are all in the basement?

Weird. Why spend millions of dollars on a public building that doesn't have many books and lots of empty space?

It's poor use of space. Same with the National Museum. There's nothing to see inside. Only a few pieces of weird abstract or modern art objects.

It has the Merlion!!!! Ha ha! I still think it's funny that Jap tourists get so excited about it. I am going to have to bring my Jap friends a box of those Merlion shaped cookies or chocolates. Hilarious! Going there for winter holidays.
